    Coyote Level 1a

    Tinnitus Auditory Discrimination Therapy

  • This trial version will only display the last 2 training pages (14 & 15) of Level 1a.  This should give you an idea of how it works without taking too much of your time -- perhaps 3-5 minutes of training.

The full version have Training Levels: 1a, 1b, 2a, 2b, 3a_1, 3a_2, 3b_1, 3b_2, 4a__1, 4a_2, 4b_1, and 4b_2. Naturally, the levels start off easier and get more difficult as your 'auditory discrimination' improves with neurological synapses growth. The first few levels have 15 training pages.  The more difficult, higher levels, have fewer.

  • WARNING:  You will be listening to sounds on the following pages.  Until you have verified the sound levels, protect your ears.

  • This is REALLY IMPORTANT ! Please use these tips to avoid making your symptoms worse.

Position yourself (or the mouse, or devices) so that:

    • your shoulder is relaxed down, your elbow is directly at your side,
    • your elbow is bent approx. 90 degrees,
    • your hand is not outside the plane of your body (i.e. your hand is over your thigh, not to the outside of it).
    • the center of the screen is not much below the horizontal plane of your eyes.
    • your shoulders and head are back , as if a string is gently lifting the center of your head straight up.
    • (To position yourself this way, you may need to move the keyboard, mouse, your body and/or the computer screen.)
    • For a tablet or phone:
      • have the device at about chest level and
      • prop something behind your elbow to hold your arm/hand up to this level.  (If you don't, shoulder and neck tension will gradually worsen.)

    Take frequent breaks to

    • stand up,
    • stretch and reach to the ceiling,
    • pull/squeeze your elbows behind your back high then low,
    • as you fully flex and extend your fingers and wrist 5 times
    • open and close your mouth / jaw several times
    • Repeat this exercise 3-5 times.
    • Repeat all this every 15-20 minutes.
  • What should you focus on?

**Important: You will get faster with these after only a few minutes of practice.  It's important and okay to start slow, but find the balance between:

    1. Goal #1:    Carefully attempting to hear and consider the sound differences to speed brain reorganization and lessening of your tinnitus.  Just like in muscle building, nerve building takes work.  So, consistently push yourself.
    2. Goal #2:    Getting done within 30-45 minutes so you don't spend all day and go crazy doing this stuff.  Be careful not to get overstressed with training or you will plateau just like athletes get over-training syndrome .
    3. Goal #3:    Treat yourself like an athlete in training.  You need focused time, relaxed and foucused mind, proper nourishment, and good sleep to be your best.

Some people tend to RUSH through (reducing their benefit) and others MUST get it exactly right (growing frustrated and weary).  Only practice will help you discover your own proper balance.

Just relax, get good rest, eat and drink well, and get some regular exercise.

Remember, you can repeat the level as needed.

It will take about 2 minutes per page (for 10 tone sets) at first, but after finishing a few pages, you should be able to do a page in about 1 minute 30 seconds.

    Computer-user SPEED Tip:

    • The training pages are very TOUCH-friendly.  It is more difficult to mouse-click the answers.
    • If you use a mouse, to help get you down to 1 and 1/2 minutes or so, use the scroll ball or wheel on your mouse or the " Page Down " key on your keyboard after you finish the lowest answer on the visible screen.  You DO NOT want to waste time with the scroll bar on the side of your screen.

So, let's get a started by listening to the tones you will hear in this level.
  • I'm sorry about that.   Here are the most common solutions:

    1. The page may need a few more seconds to download the data.
    2. Some browsers need to have the page reloaded/refreshed one time.
    3. I have to say it.  Is the volume up, speakers or headphones plugged in, etc?  Be careful with the volume.
  • Tones you will hear on this level:

You will hear tones tones that include these below. CLICK them to hear:

These are the single, REMINDER tones.

You will see these tones as reminders on every page. In that case, they will look like the icons above.

  • Now , we will show you examples of the tone combinations or sets you will hear in this training level.
Whenever you graduate to a new difficulty level, check these out carefully.

  • Let's start with 2 of the SAME tones together.

Here are the "Low" tones individually:

This is how all the QUESTIONS will be presented -- as tone sets.

There will be 10 on every page (15 pages total). The tones sets will be combinations of the individual tones.

I think you're ready for the real thing. Don't worry about remembering all these tones and icons. I will give you reminder tones to help and the answers immediately after each question. I think you will find this quite intuitive. Let's go to the next page to start some serious tinnitus brain training.

  • Selection of Nature Sounds

For this frequency, we have chosen the sounds of a Coyote,  largely because the coyote's communication sound is naturally a tone range that is quite close to the one at which you need to train. Then we altered the frequency to fit into the discrimination training protocols our research found to be most helpful for brain training long-term tinnitus reduction.

This is a beautiful and impressive animal.  Here's a picture as a visual to think of as you are training. As you train to discriminate between the lower and higher pitch tones, think of the higher pitch tones being from a smaller or younger coyote, and the lower tones being from an older, larger coyote.

    Coyote  Coyote

A coyote is naturally adaptable which helps it thrive all over North America.  We are hoping for YOUR adaptability so that your brain recovers very much and reduces the spontaneous sound your perceive.

Many other interesting facts about these hawks and amazing photos can be found at the National Geographic website.  This map below from the Wikipedia Coyote page shows were they live.

  • On this page, you have {Page15NumCorr} of 30 questions correct, which is {Page15PercCorr}%.

  • Below, you will receive different messages, depending on your score, what level you are on, and how many times you have trained on this particular level.

In this trial version, you may change the 15-page summary # correct" to see the different messages.  Choose numbers between 0 and 60.

  • You have done some good brain training today. You have trained through 150 tone sets. That's good training, regardless of your score.

You got {15pageSummaryNum} of 60 questions correct, which is {15pageSummaryPerc}%. **In the full version, it would be 450 training questions.**

90% or better is the score that we feel ythat the auditory portion of your brain, specifically related to your tinnitus profile, is well-trained enough to move to a harder level. You aren't REQUIRED to. Some people choose to train extra days at a level they are good at.  Do what you feel comfortble with.

  • Since you scored less than 75%, this process seems quite challenging for you. That's okay.  Everyone is different.  I'm sorry for the difficulty.

So, the key is to apply your brain power to this process.  Feel free to slow down...and carefully THINK about how the tones differ from one another.  If you are doing that, you are giving your brain the challenge it craves, regardless of your score.  So, even though you are having a tough time, in this program, Practice is Progress, as long as it is thoughtful practice.

Although it doesn't matter much what your score starts at, you should see improvement, and at this level, you should be able to get at least 75% correct.  Perhaps we didn't explain things to you correctly.  You may continue, but give us a call or email if you would like some help.

Sometimes it is just a bit of a stressful day, noise exposure, bad sleep, or bad food or drink that sets you back.  If that's the case, don't worry.  Just get some good food, drink, sleep and tackle this again tomorrow.  Simply click on the SUBMIT button to finish up for today.

  • Since you scored less than 85%, you seem to be having some difficulty. That's okay.

The key is to apply your brain power to this process...THINK about how the tones differ from one another. If you are doing that, you are giving your brain the challenge it craves, regardless of your score.

So, even though you are having a tough time, in this program, Practice is Progress, as long as it is thoughtful practice.

Remember, it doesn't matter much what your score starts at, but you should see improvement, which means that your brain is developing new and more efficient pathways. That's AWESOME, because that is what helps reduce the tinnitus.  Having a challenge just means you that you are already working to improve your brain. Keep up the good work.

Remember that you support your healing with good food, drink, sleep and thoughts.

  • Since you scored between 85%-89%, you are getting close to completing this level.

The key is to apply your brain power to this process...THINK about how the tones differ from one another. If you are doing that, you are giving your brain the challenge it craves, regardless of your score.

If you are THINKING about how the tones differ from one another, you are giving your brain the challenge it craves, regardless of your score. You are using the key to improve brain function.

At this point, you are doing pretty well. If you can, try to get 90% accuracy. Even when it's tough, in this program, Practice is Progress, as long as it is thoughtful practice.

Remember, it doesn't matter much what your score starts at, but you should see improvement, which means that your brain is developing new and more efficient pathways. That's AWESOME, because that is what helps reduce the tinnitus.

Perhaps another day or so of training, some good sleep, good food and drink, or stress reduction exercises might bump you up to the higher level of accuracy.

  • Since you scored 90% or better, it looks like you are applying the key - applying your brain power to this process...THINKing about how the tones differ from one another.  This level is not too difficult for you, I see. It will get tougher as we challenge your brain more and more.

I think you are ready for the next difficulty level to step up the challenge. Here's what to expect on the next level: The next level has tones that are closer together.
